Every year, Hello Wood invites an experimental guest project. This time, it was the Depot concrete-workshop organized by Szovetseg ‘39 Art Base, with their project “Gallish”. Depot is known for its experimental use of materials and innovative coupling of techniques.
The result is a hollow body built of foam-concrete and blow-up balloons, which reflects the dynamics between form, technology and materials. Exciting internal shapes, imprints and see-throughs create an organic concrete object, with a subtle, geometric wooden frame.
The ’Gallish’ is a perforated, monolit object made of foam concrete in a mould boarded by beams. Its outer shape is a 240 x 240 x 240 cm cube which has a potato shaped hole inside. You can climb into it through a hole which is on one side of the cube. The inner surface of the concrete is covered by ’hair’ made of silicone rubber to be soft and increase the contrast between the inner and the outer side. The energy for the night function of the hole is provided by the Wind Turbine and solar panels. It is comfortable for 2-3 persons to be inside at the same time. The shape is perforated also at the top of the hole, so we can see the light and other happenings above our head through a directed view. During the Hellowood workshop the ’Gallish’ will be part of the Wind Turbine and will support its structure with its weight of 3 tons. Later it will change and get new applications.
